Dear Parents and Students,
It’s time to kick off ACAP testing in style!
Morningside is excited to host our annual Sneaker Ball — and this year we’re going all out with a Kentucky Derby theme! Students will still rock their fly sneakers, but we’re elevating the look with a more formal, Derby-inspired dress code. Think classy, colorful, and creative!
Event Details:
Cost: $15 (includes admission, food, and an out-of-uniform pass)
Payment Dates: Monday, March 9 – Wednesday, March 11
Important: No money will be accepted the morning of the event.
Please note that Thursday is a regular school day. Students must arrive on time, and tardies will be issued after 8:05 a.m.
Let’s dress to impress in our Kentucky Derby attire and kick off testing with style and school spirit!
We can’t wait to see everyone there!

Today, electret microphones are used in many things we use every day, like smartphones, laptops, music equipment, and hearing aids. In fact, the National Inventors Hall of Fame says that about 9 out of 10 microphones today are electret microphones!
Because of this amazing invention, James West was honored and added to the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 1999. 🎉

Katherine's math skills were so amazing that many NASA engineers trusted her to check important space calculations by hand. One astronaut, John Glenn, trusted her work so much that he said he wouldn’t fly into space until Katherine said the numbers were right.
In 2015, Katherine Johnson received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, one of the highest awards in the United States, to honor her incredible achievements.

Mary Jackson was NASA’s first Black female engineer. She was very smart and worked hard for many years, writing reports and helping scientists learn more about flying and space.
Later, Mary chose a new job so she could help others. She worked to make sure women had more chances to get hired and succeed at NASA. She also cared deeply about people and spent much of her life mentoring kids, volunteering, and helping her community.
Thank you for opening doors for future scientists!

Huge shout-out to school counselors—the calm in the chaos, the quiet advocates, the life-skill superheroes doing emotional triage and future-building all at once. Y’all matter so much. We definitely love Ms. T. Turner BIG here at Morningside Elementary School. Thank you for all you do!

Happy Black History Month!
Join us all February as we highlight influential African Americans. Students can win prizes during morning announcements by following along with our nightly Facebook trivia posts. We honor the legacy we walk in every day.

Eagle Families, enjoy your Winter break and see you all in 2026!
